MysticSunless Lotion
April 6, 2008
Ahhh… self-tanner.
I used to think L’oreal self-tanning wipes were the best auto-bronzant outside of the mystic tan spray booth, which I wasn’t able to find in Belgium, and even if I could, wasn’t the most cost-effective way to maintain a slight glow. In 2005 I wrote a self-tanner comparison guide, comparing Biotherm, St. Tropez, Neutrogena tanning mouse, L’oreal Sublime Gel, L’oreal Sublime tanning wipes, and a few other products that escape my mind now. The L’oreal tanning wipes won the competition, and two things went wrong since that decision: The formula was different (in a bad way) between the North American and European markets, and the product was then largely withdrawn from the European market in favour of the new ‘Glove’, which I don’t know… I wasn’t so keen on the glove. By the way, the US Wipes were nearly 2x the size as the EU version, and the formula was slightly lighter which allowed for a more consistent application – there was even a lighter version specially formulated for face and neck which I really liked.
Since then I have been on the hunt for something else. Not since my sister’s wedding, when I did the “Mystic Tan’ spray booth, have I had such a great faux tan. So I should not have been surprised that my journey to self-tanning self-discovery would end with MysticSunless lotion. It’s is my new favorite self-tanner, made by the same ‘spray tan’ company. The lotion gives the same color, looks very believable, and doesn’t rub off in patches the way other self-tanners have a tendency to do. Instead, it gently fades, which looks much more natural than any other product I have tried. A small bottle costed $30 the last time I was in the US, and I haven’t seen it for sale in Europe.
